Repair and Regift: Solving the Holiday Tech Shortages [Infographic]

The continuous supply chain challenges are causing holiday shopping problems for many consumers this year. Shoppers are running into a shocking trend – 50% of people are finding many of their wanted items not in stock both online and in stores as holiday shipping windows get smaller. Out-of-stock products are even anticipated to rise 360% from two years ago with the electronics industry getting most of the blow. Many tech gifts are expected to sell out fast as tech becomes harder to source. Chip shortages and increasing costs of shipping containers, air freight, and trucking are making electronics more expensive and less available.

However, you can still get the electronics you need for the holiday season by getting your used tech repaired. Seven out of ten consumers have at least one unused device at home and more than 120 million used smartphones available worldwide. Repairing these used tech can help save around $330 per household while reducing electronic waste. Repairs are also easy to do. It just involves either fixing the charging port, USB port, or headphone jacks or upgrading the hard drive.

Battery replacements can also increase the lifespan of a device by a couple years. The cost of tech repairs are much cheaper and takes less time than buying new devices as well. Investing in repairs could decrease the amount of money your family spends on electronics by 22% while saving Americans more than $40 billion each year.

Unfortunately, simply trying to shop early may not be a workable strategy for this year – but there is hope. There’s still an ability to get your holiday gifts taken care of in time for exchanging gifts with your friends and loved ones.
